The Cost of Pre-Planning

Pre-Planning — costs can be controlled.

Costs associated with pre-planning primarily consist of only those involved through a funeral home for their services and merchandise as selected.

By doing things in advance, you are not as prone to impulse or emotional buying. Your arrangements can be accomplished with a clear head and can even be considered for a period of time without being finalized.

Prices may be guaranteed for whenever they are needed. This means that if you pre-finance your funeral or memorial services, the price of the services and merchandise may be all, or in part, guaranteed against any inflationary trends. This relieves your estate (if any) or relatives of any financial hardship or burden at your death.

However ancillary costs, such as cemetery charges, flowers, minister honorarium and related transportation expenses, are not usually made a part of a pre-arranged funeral. Two reasons for this is that the funeral home cannot guarantee any costs other than its own, and prevailing rates for other items at the time of death might be quite different than now. Hence, these associated costs need to be funded separately.
