    Charlotte L. Murphy

    March 28, 1916 - May 21, 2016

    Charlotte Leidig Murphy, age 100, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Born March 28, 1916 in Shippensburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Reed Leidig and Mary Bertha McClain Leidig. Charlotte was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and Harrisburg Business College. During her career she worked as legal secretary to A. J. White Hutton, court reporter for Judge Sheely in Adams County court and retired as office manager from Noelker and Hull Architects in the 1980’s. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Charlotte faithfully cared for her family, to include her church family. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, in Chambersburg, where she volunteered until the age of 99 and was active with the United Methodist Women. Her husband, Donald L. Murphy, whom she married March 28, 1947, preceded her in death on November 26, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles W. Leidig in 1986 and a sister, Mary Beatrice Leidig in 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Zullinger, a grandson, Michael A. Fittry and two granddaughters, Megan M. Handy (Michael) and Adrianne S. Talhelm, three great grandsons, Mason Handy, Matthew Handy, Liam Fittry, two great granddaughters, Hannah Fittry and Jessica Talhelm McHenry, and a great great grandson Beau Cubeta . She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 29th at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Inurnment in the Columbarium at St. Paul United Methodist Church will follow immediately after the service. Light refreshments will be served in the Family Life Center following the inurnment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlotte’s memory to St. Paul United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women or the charity of your choice.
