Our beloved Harriet went to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 30, 2016. She was born June 16, 1951 to the late Charles Brandon and the late Charlotte Teal Brandon, both of Chambersburg. Harriet experienced a full life centered around faith, family, and friends. She visited many churches in the Chambersburg area and was a member of Saint James A.M.E. Church during her childhood and adolescence. In most recent years she regularly attended Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Chambersburg Area High School. She worked in warehousing for many years, at Knouse Foods, and lastly at the former Ventura foods. Later, she greatly enjoyed a career at Scotland School for Veterans Children as a houseparent. Most recently she was employed by the Salvation Army as part of the dining staff. She was a member of, and served on the committee for the Mount Vernon Memorial Association. Harriet’s interests included going on long Sunday drives, as well as a lifetime of traveling up and down the east coast to visit friends and family. She had a love of history, with a special interest in African American history. She would often visit various historical landmarks. She was most interested in the Civil War era and took frequent trips to Gettysburg, visiting the battlefield and other local treasures. Many who knew her knew that no church outfit was complete without the perfect matching hat. What Harriet loved most was spending time with her family and close friends with family dinners and cookouts. Harriet is survived by her husband, Johnnie, of Chambersburg, her daughters, Tanyel Brandon Flythe (Gary Jr.) of Harrisburg and Syrita Woods (Jack) of Chambersburg; her grandchildren, Gary Flythe III, Chase Flythe, and Brianna Flythe, and one great-grandson, Tyson Flythe, all of Harrisburg. Step-mother, Louise Slaughter (Samuel) of Chambersburg; one sister, Margret “Peggy” Brandon Smith (Andrew) of Harrisburg; a special sister-in-law, Frances Sesler (Clyde) of Brooksville, FL; two brothers, Keith Brandon (Fany) of Phoenix, Arizona and Troy Brandon of Chambersburg; one niece, Brenda Brandon Jones (Kelvin Sr.) of Carlisle, their children, Layecia (Morgan) of Chambersburg, Kelvin Jr., Tevin, Emmanuel, and Sierra, all of Carlisle; as well as a host of other dear family and friends. Home going services will be officiated by Rev. G. Nathan Bell and Pastor Vic Johnson on Monday, November 7, 2016 at the Brownsville Church nof God, 6390 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, Pa.17222. Viewing and visitation with the family will begin at 12 PM. The funeral service will begin at 1PM. Harriet will be laid to rest at Lebanon/Mount Vernon Cemetery immediately following the service. The repast will take place at the Salvation Army,159 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA.17201,following interment. Harriet wanted this to be a celebration of her life and requested that friends and family not wear black.
