Irene F. Hartranft, 92, Chambersburg passed away March 8, 2015 at home. Born January 18, 1923 in Letterkenny Township, she was the daughter of the late Ira R. and Edna Lehman Forbes. She was a member of The Chambersburg Gospel Chapel, past president of Post 46 A.L Aux, past president of the 4 County Council A.L. Auxillary, and a volunteer at The Chambersburg Hospital gift shop for 16 years. She was employed at Thompsons Ladies Wear and as a sales clerk for the former Town and Country Retail store, where she retired. Irene enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and baking. Irene is survived by her husband; Robert Hartranft Sr., one son; Robert Hartranft Jr. (Catherine) of Chambersburg, one daughter; Susan( Mrs Stephen) McKenrick of Fayetteville, one grandaughter; Amy Barton of Chambersburg, and three great grand children Destin, Ashlyn, and Landon Barton, two step grandchildren; Joseph and Valerie Hovetter, and two step great grandchildren Calvin and Jacques. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Ira “Buddy” Forbes, who was killed in WWII and Russel Forbes. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on March 12, 2015 at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg,Pa with Dr. Stephen Underwood officiating.
