October 19, 1920 - August 2, 2014
Jayne L. Whorley entered this world on October 19, 1920, the daughter of J. Merle and Esther Thomas Kauffman, and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on August 2, 2014 at age 93 at Menno Haven Health Care Facility. She was a resident of Penn Hall Manor Assisted Living, Chambersburg, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, George K. (Kenneth) Whorley, her parents, her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Parker, and her brother, Jack Kauffman. She is greatly loved and missed by her family. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Smith (Edward), Mercersburg, and her son, Craig Whorley (Loraine), Chambersburg. In addition are grandchildren Erin Smith Creech (Robert), Scott Whorley (Jill), Edward Smith II (Angala), Brett Whorley (Amy), all of Chambersburg, and Trina Whorley Horn (Jason) of New Jersey. Ten great-grandchildren of “Nana” also survive: Konner and Lyla Whorley, Kaylee Jayne and Brennen Smith, Kellen Whorley, Ava, Shane, and Eli Horn, and Jayden and Ava Creech, and great-great-granddaughter, Madelyn Creech. Jayne was a 1938 graduate of Chambersburg Area High School and key organizer of her class reunions. Jayne enjoyed life and was most happy when around family and friends. During her retail career, she was known by many for her kindness and helpfulness while working at Thompson’s, Eyerly’s, and the current Bon Ton, from which she retired after 22 years. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and "The Golden Links" Sunday School Class in Chambersburg, PA. Jayne loved life, music, and the beauty surrounding her, keeping active in many volunteer organizations. Most recently, she remained active in the local NARFE, where she was in charge of meeting reservations. She was also a member of The Golden Age Club and AARP. For many years, she volunteered at the Carousel Gift Shop at the Chambersburg Hospital, Cumberland Valley Visitors Center, and King Street Church. Jayne had a solid and unswerving faith in Jesus Christ and was a living example of love, friendship, compassion, and dedication to friends and family. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 4, at Sellers’ Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA, from 6:00-8:00 PM, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. The service will be in the main sanctuary of King Street United Brethren Church, 162 East King Street, Chambersburg, PA, on Tuesday, August 5, at 11:00 AM.
