Joe Garber, son of Harry and Sarah Garber, was born on February 18, 1922, at the home place. He passed away at 9:20 am on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at the age of 92 years and 8 months. He lived all of his life close to the homeplace. In 1940 he was baptized into the fellowship of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church and at the time of his death, he was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg. A few weeks before his passing, he received comfort from the anointing service. He farmed and dairied from 1941 to 1968. After retiring from farming, he worked at Wayne Feed for 14 yrs. He then helped install windows and patios until he was 88 yrs old. He was a steady man and provided well for his family. He was united in marriage with Sister Virgie Denlinger, on December 24, 1941. They enjoyed almost 39 years together until her passing on August 10, 1980. To this union was born 3 daughters;Sister Colleen Ann Crumpacker (her husband Brother Butch) of IN, who survives, Velma Jean Garber (preceded him in death on December 10, 1959), and Carol Louise Garber of IN, who survives. Also surviving are 1 sister: Sister Gladys (Norman) Bowman of OH ; 1 sister in law Sister Orpha Garber of PA; 2 grandsons: Todd Crumpacker (friend Lenora Lentz) of VA, and Chad Crumpacker(his wife Sister Twyla) of IN; 6 great grandchildren: Cole, Daisy, Ry, Clay, River, and Fen Crumpacker all of IN; special neighbors, Craig and Betsy Miller and Chris and Patti Bumbaugh, who helped him daily; and family, friends, and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife,daughter,and a brother Brother Ralph Garber: Brother in laws Pharon (Clara) , Bruno (Mabel) , and Virgil Denlinger ; sister in laws Naomi (Jack) Bowser, and Sister Beatrice Garber. Arrangements are at the William F. Sellers Funeral Home, Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg. His viewing will be 9 am to 11 am on Saturday, September 20, 2014prior to 11 o'clock funeral service. Burial will be at the Falling Springs Old German Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev Guy Baer of St Paul United Methodist Church will take care of the service.
