    John E. Burns

    November 22, 2019

    John Edward Burns, 74 of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Transitions Healthcare. He was born December 31, 1944 in Chambersburg, the son of the late Merle Edgar and Helen Rebecca (Lader) Burns. He was a 1964 Graduate of CASHS. On July 31, 1984, he married Laura Galbraith. John worked at James River Corporation for 32 years and then for Knause Foods, retiring in 2006. He served in the Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. He enjoyed hunting: deer, elk, turkey and fishing. He loved hunting with his best friend, Larry Stenger and doing sports with his son, Philip, including watching his favorite teams; Penn State College Football and the Redskins. John was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back and loved to help people. When fishing, he would often stop what he was doing to help kids with their fishing and showing them what to do. In addition to his wife, Laura (Galbraith) Burns, he is survived by his son Philip Burns, Needmore, PA, daughters: Johnna Kirwan, Chambersburg, PA, Dr. Lora Hamuro, Lawrenceville, N.J.; A granddaughter and three grandsons; brother, Samuel Burns, wife Betty, Chambersburg; sister, Nancy Yeager, husband Galen, Chambersburg; nephews: Kirk Yeager, wife Angela, Chambersburg, Shane Yeager, Chambersburg; niece, Tina Bobo, husband Lance, Erma, NJ; cousin Paulette Armstrong, husband Larry, of Downingtown,PA; best friend, Larry Stenger, wife Peggy, Chambersburg and by many other cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded by his sister Patricia Doyle. A Remembrance Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Sellers Funeral Home with the Rev. Marleen Shepherd officiating. There will be a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to: Transitions Healthcare, 595 Bigler Road, Gettysburg, Pa 17325.
