Laura Jean (Forrester) Gunnet, 82, of Chambersburg, Pa. passed away Thursday Oct. 9, 2014 at her home. Born Jan. 17,1932 in Letterkenny Township, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth (Sellers) Forrester. She grew up on a farm in Letterkenny and graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1951 and Shippensburg State College (SSC) in 1955. She later went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education from SSC. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher who started her teaching career in Scotland Elementary, and went on to teaching assignments in Puerto Rico and Mechanicsburg before ending her career at Grandview Elementary where she taught for 27 years, retiring on 1990 with a total of 35 years in education. She taught only first grade her whole career. She was a loving and dedicated teacher who was known for her kind, loving and gentle spirit which earned her most high respect from all students who came in contact with her. She was also highly respected and admired by her fellow teachers and members of the community. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, PSEA Retired Teachers Association, the Pa. Association of the School Retirees, National Education Association, The Alpha Delta Kappa Soriority and the Chambersburg Mall Walkers. She enjoyed traveling and she enjoyed buying and selling jewelry , specializing in southwestern style jewelry. Laura Jean met the love of her life, John Gunnet, at Shippensburg State College and in 1956 they were married in Puerto Rico where he was serving in the US Army. Surviving are her two sisters: Doris (Ferd) Bikle, Eleanor (Lester) Ostrasky, and her three brothers: Harold, Carl (Joanne) Forrester, Gerald (Wanda) Forrester, a sister in law Barbara Forrester and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister Vivian, her two brothers, Jay and Lynn, and a sister in law Helen. The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Neal O.Hively officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the W.F. Sellers Funeral Home.
