Martha A. (Polk) (Stitely) Neil, age 82,of Chambersburg passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Falling Springs Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born January 18,1935 in Williamsport, Pa, the daughter of the late David M. and Catherine Grace (King) Polk. Martha was a member of the American Legion in St. Thomas and a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she helped with community dinners. She was employed at the Franklin County Nursing Home for over 20 years and then worked for the South Mountain Restoration Center, retiring after 18years of service. She loved to crochet baby layets- booties, sweaters, and hats. Martha enjoyed wrestling, country music, going to fairs and concerts. She was a great cook and loved cooking for family, friends and people she worked with. Martha was always helpful and went out of her way to do all she could for others. A very active resident at Franklin County Nursing Home, she was President of the Resident Council, a member of Franklin County Nursing Home Choir, Falling Spring Nursing & Rebab. Auxillary, P.E.E.R. and "Martha's Morsel's" cooking show. She always welcomed new residents into the home, helped in the dining room and was instrumental in raising funds for the resident van. Martha is survived by: a son, Edgar Polk; four daughters: Karen "Susie" Barrick, Louise Appleby, Virginia Miley, Dixie Williams; one brother, Albert Polk, two cousins: Myrtle Lake, Carl Cowan and a very dear friend, Betty Clouser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, three brothers, a baby sister and a daughter. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 21, 2016, at the Falling Spring Nursing Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Dianne Salter and Rev. Donald Nolder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Grindstone Hill Cemetery.
