Ruth Jean Gilbert Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ruth Jean Gilbert, 95, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Menno Haven. She was born March 11, 1921 in Roxbury PA, the daughter of the late Charles E. and Edna M. (McLaughlin) Shields. She attended Shippensburg University and was the owner of her own hair shop. Ruth was married to Clark W. Gilbert for over 60 years. A member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she was also a longtime member of the Methodist Church in Shippensburg where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school. For over 25 years she participated in the Shippensburg Fair by organizing the “Queen Contest”. Surviving her are: a niece, Margaret Harvey and four nephews: Roy, Charlie, Carl, and David Shields; great nieces, nephews and many friends. Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. The funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the William F. Sellers Funeral Home with Pastor Brenda Doyle officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery at 2:45.
