Viola J. Gayman (Rice) Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Viola J. Gayman, 91, of Chambersburg went to be with the Lord, on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Menno Haven Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on Thursday, December 14, 1922 in Greene Township, the daughter of the late Grant and Annie (Wenger) Rice. She was a member of the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women’s Missionary Sewing Auxiliary. Before she was married, Viola grew up on a dairy farm, worked as a housekeeper and at the former Stanley Co. After she married Glenn Gayman in 1945, she enjoyed working with the eggs at Hillside Poultry Farms until the mid-1990’s. Not only did she sew her own clothing, she also enjoyed refinishing furniture and quilting. Viola also loved flea markets and collecting glass chickens. She is survived by two sons: Ronald (husband of Barb) Gayman, Clifford (husband of Lois) Gayman; four grandchildren: Brian Gayman, Heather (Mrs. Joel) Myer, Terry Gayman, Julie (Mrs. Christopher) Yuninger; seven great grandchildren: Jordan, Adam, Annabelle, Daisy, Owen, McKenzie, and Skyler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Gayman in 1984 , a son, Marvin Gayman in 1974, and three siblings: John Rice, Elsie Wingert and Carrie Rife. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church with the Rev. Kevin Witter officiating. Burial will be in Air Hill Cemetery.
