Richard E. Vason

Richard E. Vason, 77, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 22, 1937 in Harlem, New York the son of the late Will and Lucille (Thompson) Vason. Richard was educated in NYC. He was an entrepreneur in his own right as a tailor cutter in the Amalgamated Union where he was the first African American elected to the Board. Prior to retirement he worked for Conway trucking Company in Franklin County. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1988 until he passed. Richard married the love of his life Elouise ( Flannagan) Vason with whom he shared almost sixty loving years of matrimony. He leaves to cherish his memories his very devoted wife and caregiver Elouise of the home. His five loving children: Richard Jones , Bronx, NY., Lanetta Michaux (Claude) Bronx, NY, Richard Vason (Carmen) Mt. Vernon, NY, Julius Vason, Long Island, NY, and Ricarda Vason (Fortune) Waynesboro, PA. Three sisters: Gloria Lawrence, Yvonne Ijeh, and Gail Smith (Smitty). Three brothers: Larry (Pat) Vason, Victor (Ayanna) Vason, Orlando (Sylvia) Vason. In-laws Mr. Julius and mother Vertie Parks, Bronx, NY. His precious grandchildren: Rene, Michelle, Richard L. (Miriam), Sean, Ahmed, Claudette, Jonathan, Imani, Richard C.; and his “Bae-Baes” Great Grandchildren, Victoria and Isabella. Two sister-in–laws Mary Lucille and Calissa, nieces, nephews and relatives. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful caregivers, also sisters and brothers of the Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints Church, and family and friends who supported them. His homecoming celebration at 11:30 AM on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church with the Bishop Bryon Fernelius officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
