Thomas Jeffrey Houser

Mr. Thomas J. Houser, 72, of Frederick, Maryland, went to be with the Lord, peacefully, after a brief illness, on Friday, January 4, 2024, at Frederick Health Hospital, with his daughter by his side. Born on November 30, 1951, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George R. Houser, who died November 3, 1994, and the late Keitha E. Houser, who died August 8, 1999. He married his life partner, the late Heidi M. Houser, on March 16, 1974, with whom he will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary, in heaven. He was a 1970 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School. Tom enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, July 2, 1970 and was discharged July 5, 1975. He then enlisted in the United States Army, August 29, 1976, where he served as a medical specialist, and was discharged December 31, 1991. Throughout his military tenure, he was awarded with a National Defense Service Medal, Marine Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Citation, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Counteroffensive Phase VII/Consolidation I/Consolidation II, Overseas Service Bar, M16 Rifle Qualification Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and Merit Mast. After retiring from the military, he pursued a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), working in multiple nursing homes in Frederick, and surrounding areas, until his retirement, from Transitions Healthcare, in Sykesville, MD, in the of Spring 2018. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, gambling, visiting family at campgrounds, during special events, such as the holidays, family reunions, get-togethers, birthday parties, and so much more. Important times, were those that he spent with Heidi, including dates to the movies, annual trips to Las Vegas, the trip to Hoover Dam and traveling into California and Arizona, trips to the beach was a must, traveling the States and the world, concerts and shows. Last, but not least, the highlight of his life was his daughter and his granddaughter. He enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them whether it be at the holidays, birthdays, or just because. In August 2023, he shared a special trip with his daughter by visiting the National Museum of the United States Army, in Fort Belvoir, VA. His granddaughter, Brooke, he walked the earth for. He enjoyed the shopping trips to the mall, the times at Chuck E. Cheese, going to the movies, carnivals, to lunch or dinner, going to the beach, the pumpkin patch, cheering her on at her soccer games, attending the band concerts, Girl Scout events, her high school graduation, and all the other events that Brooke wanted him to be there for. Another special moment is when he had the opportunity to walk with her to celebrate South Hagerstown High School's Rebels Girls Varsity Soccer Team's Senior Night, during her senior year of high school. He also enjoyed the NFL game days when the Eagles played the Giants. He was an avid Eagles fan, and his son-in-law is an avid Giants fans, so those moments were always very special, especially the Christmas Day 2023 game. He is survived by one daughter, Alina M. Marshall, and husband, Jerry, of Hagerstown, MD, and one very special granddaughter, Brooke M. Marshall, of Chambersburg, PA. He is also survived by two brothers, George W. Houser, and Mark A. Houser, Sr., and wife Connie, of Fayetteville, PA; four sisters, Victoria Statler, and husband Alan Sr., of Chambersburg, PA, Yvonne E. Dansberger, and husband Benjamin, of Lusby, MD, Christine A. Danzberger, and husband Robert, of Chambersburg, PA, and Jacqueline S. Norcross, of Chambersburg, PA, numerous nieces and nephews, of multiple generations. He is also survived by several special neighbors and friends, especially those at Transitions Healthcare. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA. Services will be held at Sellers Funeral Home: Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm, and the burial service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 10 am, interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. Officiants will be Rev. Steve Livermore and Rev. Dr. Dianne Salter of First United Methodist Church - Chambersburg. Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff that cared for Tom, from the beginning to the end, at Frederick Health Hospital, and Hospice of Frederick Health.
